Why Paper Made from Cotton is Best

Kattone’s expert, proprietary paper making process uses natural, (renewable) cotton fibre, not wood from precious trees, which in that case must be felled, and take years to replace.

Our handmade paper is made from cotton in our studio in Australia, perfect for any event: weddings, corporate branding, small business branding, thank you cards, business cards.

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says that “Cotton is the most widespread profitable non-food crop in the world. Its production provides income for more than 250 million people worldwide and employs almost 7% of all labour in developing countries. Approximately half of all textiles are made of cotton.”

The WWF is working with a coalition of global partners to promote the sustainable production and use of cotton in a variety of ways. Here is a list of factors Making Cotton Sustainable

Water-efficient irrigation: Advanced techniques like drip irrigation and better scheduling significantly reduce water usage.

Reduced chemical use: Practices like integrated pest management, zero-till farming, and the use of organic cotton significantly reduce pesticide and insecticide application.

Biodegradable and natural: Cotton is a natural, renewable, and biodegradable fibre, which contrasts with many synthetic, fossil-fuel-based materials.

Certified sustainable practices: Programs like the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and the Australian my BMP certification promote and independently audit a range of sustainable and ethical farming practices.

Innovation and responsible farming: The Australian cotton industry has made significant strides in water and pesticide efficiency through research and on-farm innovation, setting high standards for sustainable production.

Consumer choice matters: Choosing cotton products certified by reputable programs can support more sustainable and ethical cotton farming.
